FAQ

Q. What is disposable email?

A. A disposable email address is a temporary email address used either to protect your main email address from spam, or to make your self (more) anonymous on the net. They are disposable because typically you use them only once or twice and then 'throw' them away. Some sites keep the emails for a few hours, others for a few days, or a few weeks.

Q. What's the point of this site then?

A. So you can make up a disposable email on the spot when needed (with zero effort). If you send an email to address bob.smith@dudmail.com, you can visit the url http://dudmail.com/for/bob.smith and see all mails sent to that address.

Q. Yeah, but why?

A. Sometimes when registering for services (real world and on the net) you need to give an email. Often you dont want to permanently give them a real email address but you need to check their email confirmation message at least once.

Q. What happens if I need to use the email address again?

A. Just use it again - any email received will be visible at the same url, just like the last one.

Q. Are there any addresses I can't use?

A. Just a couple - support@dudmail.com and admin@dudmail.com.

Q. Doesn't this mean anyone can see my mail?

A. Yup. But if your email is that sensitive, you shouldn't really be using this service. How else could we do it without making you sign up for an account? (Besides, if you register for an account, then it will be private.)

Q. So how do I get private emails again?

A. When you register for an account, you get to pick a domain name (eg 'john'). Any emails to any.address@john.dudmail.com will then be visible only to you.

Q. For a site touting disposable emails, why do you require a email address to sign up?

A. The main reason you would sign up is to get incoming emails forwarded to your own email address. It's hard to forward an email if we don't have an address to forward it to.

Q. What if I want to register, but don't want to give you my real email address?

A. Just register an account using a dudmail.com address. (Obviously forwarding wont work though!)

Q. How long are emails kept?

A. Currently 14 days. (This is subject to change)

Q. How do I use the rss feeds?

A. When you view an email inbox your browser should automatically discover the rss feed for that inbox. If that doesn't work, you can reach the feed manually at http://dudmail.com/rss/[inbox_name]
(Replacing [inbox_name] with the name of the inbox you are interested in).

Q. Can I send mail?

A. No.

Q. I'm having issues, or I have further questions - how can I contact you?

A. You can reach us at support@dudmail.com.

Q. Am I likely to have any further issues?

A. We hope not! However, dudmail.com is still in beta and accordingly may have a few bugs lurking in the corners. Please contact us on support@dudmail.com if you have any concerns, or find anything not working the way you expect.

Q. What is your policy on spam?

A. The entire reason behind dudmail.com is protect end users from spam. To enable email forwarding though, we must forward mails through to you. If some-one has sent spam to a forward address that you have set up, then this spam will be forwarded to you. However, forwarding is disabled by default, and you do not have to register/supply an email address if you dont want to utilise email forwarding.

Q. What is your privacy policy?

A. We will never give out your email address to anyone ever. We strongly dislike spam, which is the entire reason this site has been set up. At any point you can cancel your account and all of your personal data and emails will be completely purged from our system.

Q. Can you recommend any other disposable email sites?

A. Sure - another excellent disposable email site is spamgourmet.com Spamgourmet.com has been around for 10 years and knows what it is doing! Another is OneWayMail - this site also allows you to create address without registering.
